Family-Life-Work balance isn't always done gracefully

Fiber Artist Statement

I am an independent designer and producer of unique original fiber art. I produce one-of-a kind pieces - shawls, handbags, cowls and wall hanging created predominantly from a knitted foundation.

When I design, I usually have a specific person or space in mind. I seek to create a visual interpretation of their character or landscape. Custom design is the bulk of my work.

There's nothing so exciting and oddly calming as working with fibers, especially natural ones. Whether spinning, dying, knitting or felting, working with fiber is my solice amongst all things that might alternately provide joy and consternation. I'm married to one,  raising the other and sailing in the seas of all-male testosterone.

I start with color and then move to texture and shape when I am designing. I often have several projects described in my notebook waiting for me. Then as I begin actually producing the work, things change and morph. I've never been one to sew exactly according to the pattern, cook according to the recipe or stick to my own designs at inception. No two pieces I create ever end up being the same and  therefore cannot be duplicated. My work cannot be mass produced.

All of the materials I work with are of the highest quality available and are worthy of the hours of labor I put into my designs. These are heirloom pieces, handed down from generation to generation as a visual journal that will inform your posterity as to who you are.
